An integrated approach for failure mitigation & localization in power systems

The transmission grid is often comprised of several control areas that are connected by multiple tie lines in a mesh structure for reliability. It also well-known line failures can propagate non-locally and redundancy exacerbate cascading. In this paper, we propose an integrated approach to reliability (i) judiciously switches off small number so the tree structure; (ii) leverages unified frequency paradigm provide congestion management real time. Even though proposed topology reduces redundancy, integration at regional level real-time stronger guarantees on failure localization mitigation. We illustrate our IEEE 39-bus network evaluate its performance 118-bus, 179-bus, 200-bus 240-bus networks with various conditions. Simulations show that, compared traditional approach, not only prevents load shedding more scenarios, but incurs smaller amounts loss scenarios where inevitable. Moreover, generators under adjust their operations actively efficiently local manner.
